About Our Program

The SSMS Art program continues to grow. With three art teachers, our art program is one of the largest in Pasco County Schools. Each year, over 650 students are able to develop their artistic skills through a variety of courses. At the end of each year, the art program hosts a school-wide Art Show that allows every student to showcase their art with our community.

Our Courses

6th: Visual Arts 1

This program is an introduction to art and is only for sixth graders. The Visual Arts 1 course explores both 2D and 3D art, allowing students to explore new ideas and practice with new mediums.

7th & 8th: 2D Art

The 2D art program is offered for both seventh and eighth grade students. 2D Art focuses on a wide variety of two-dimensional art, including but not limited to painting, drawing, collage and printmaking. Techniques and mediums are subject to change yearly.

7th & 8th: 3D Art

The 3D art program is offered for both seventh and eighth grade students. 3D Art focuses on a wide variety of three-dimensional art, including but not limited to clay, paper mache, string art and book folding. Techniques and mediums are subject to change yearly.

7th & 8th: Advanced

This is a yearlong course that allows students that are passionate about art to hone their skills further in both 2D and 3D art techniques. This is a course that requires an application at the end of the previous school year. If your child is interested in applying, please make sure to email your child’s art teacher during the school year to ask for more information about the application process to apply for advanced art the following school year. Techniques and mediums are subject to change yearly.

Parents, Students, Volunteers

We strongly encourage our families to follow us on our social media platforms to see what we are doing through live videos, in process photos and pictures of the students in the art setting. We love sharing and connecting with our families. Once your child is part of the art program at SSMS, we will also provide you with the information of how to follow along with your child’s progress on their own digital portfolio on Artsonia.com.
