Details about Testing:
FSA Writing: This is a reminder that state testing for FSA Writing begins this week. On Monday, April 5, all traditional 6th and 7th grade students will be taking their assessment. On Tuesday, April 6, all traditional 8th grade students will be taking their writing assessment. Testing sessions begin at 8:30 am on both Monday and Tuesday morning, and students are to report directly to their testing locations after arriving on campus and getting breakfast. If your child does not know their testing locations they can find this posted on the cafeteria windows.
For mySchool Online students, state testing days and times are broken up by alphabet and occur on either April 6, April 8, or April 9. Please visit our SSMS website, hover over “Parents” and click on “Testing 2021” for additional information as to when your child will need to arrive to campus for their FSA Writing Assessment. On their testing day, all MSOL students need to check in at the front office by 8:15 for AM testing and by 1145am for PM testing, then a SSMS staff member will bring them to the Media center for testing.https://ssms.pasco.k12.fl.us/testing-basics/
District Testing: In addition to FSA, District level assessments also occur during the month of April for ALL students. These include the NWEA for Language Arts, Math & Science, the Algebra Readiness assessment, and Civics Inquiry assessment. These district level assessments assist in gathering important data that help our school determine student growth and understanding of the learning standards that are being taught. We encourage all students to do their best showing what they know on these assessments as well as their state exams.
Additional FSA assessments, End-of-Course exams and District Finals assessments will be occurring during the month of May. Please stay tuned to our SSMS website and social media for additional schedules which will be finalized soon.
Birthday Gram Fundraiser: We are excited to announce the launch of a school wide fundraiser that will run April 1st through May 26th. If a Jaguar student has a birthday between now and the end of the year, send them a Birthday Gram to make their day extra special. For $5 students will get a personalized birthday gram, a happy birthday song and a piece of candy delivered to them during lunch by our staff. For $7 we can email you a video of the birthday gram experience. If you would like to purchase a birthday gram for a student at SSMS please check out our website for purchase and detail submission. https://ssms.pasco.k12.fl.us/ Any questions, reach out to Kelly McCormick at: kmccormi@pasco.k12.fl.us
8th grade activities- We are excited to announce that we have planned some great events and celebrations for our 8th graders. Your 8th grader came home with a very detailed letter and packet outlining the events last week. Ms. Seibert and all the 8th grade teachers have worked hard to coordinate all these great events to celebrate the accomplishments of our 8th graders all while working with the guidelines and procedures set by the CDC that we must follow as a school district to keep our students safe during a pandemic. Please review this information with your child as there are specific deadlines for payment. Also, ensure your child understands that a violation to the student code of conduct can impact participation in these events. The teachers reviewed this packet with them. We thank you for all your support and understanding with this.
