Hello Jaguar Families!

Here are the weekly updates for the week of 3/8.

3rd Quarter ends 3/12: We have only 5 days left in quarter 3. Please log in and check your child’s grades and assignments.  You can have your child log in and show you as every student knows how to log into myStudent.  We will have quarterly incentive at the end of the day 3/12 for those caught up and passing their classes. Students who are failing their core courses must be present to make up the work with their teacher during the quarterly incentive period on Friday 3/12. If they are absent they will have a working lunch the week of 3/23. If you have questions about your student’s grade, please email the teacher directly, this can be done straight through myStudent.

Quarterly Incentive:  Our Quarterly Incentive is Friday March 12th.  Our goal is to reward students who have completed all work and give students with missing assignments a final opportunity to complete work prior to the end of the quarter. If any student is missing work, they cannot participate in the quarterly incentive. Your child’s team is coordinating a fun incentive period for their students and happy we are able to recognize all their hard work this quarter. Students can still earn the incentive this week! Parents, we will be running an Activity Bell Schedule. If students who are on track want to leave campus early, they will need to be signed out through our main office prior to 1:45pm, which is before the activity period beginning. Parents, we will NOT be signing students out after 1:45 pm, so if you come on campus to sign your child out early, we will not be able to accommodate this. Thank you for your participation with this.Activity Bell Schedule

Articulation and registration: Our 6th and 7th completed their registration for the 21/22 school year. Make ups for absent students will be done on 3/8 & 3/10 – Counselors will call the students out of class to complete this when appropriate.
Incoming 6th graders (current 5th graders). We will be hosting a Parent University virtual event on Thursday 3/11 at 6:30 pm via ZOOM. We will be reviewing the course card and sharing information about SSMS. The links will be on our website. SSMS staff are heading to the elementary schools to complete course cards with our incoming 6th graders this week and the week of 3/23. We are excited to welcome our newest Jaguars to the Jungle! Thank you!

Athletics this week:
~JV Boys basketball finish out their season with home game 3/6 @6pm against BPMS.
~Track and Field Tryouts take place Monday-Thursday after school. All paperwork must be submitted via email to Mr. Matt Van Daele, athletic director, prior to the first tryout on 3/5. All paperwork is found on our website.

UPDATES to our Car Loop ARRIVAL procedure! Thank you all for your input, support, and participation to safely and efficiently get our students to school. Parents, you have voiced the need to tighten up this procedure and we took your feedback, thank you! Just a reminder, the change is simply that you are to move all the way forward and around the curb to the car in front of you and drop off your child where your car stops (SSMS staff will direct you to keep moving or stop and unload). There are no specific drop off locations for 6th, 7th, or 8th graders, wherever your car stops is where your student gets out and walks to the cafeteria area 8:10 or to 1st period 8:15-8:30. If they arrive after 8:30 they report to the office for a late pass. This will allow for many students to drop up at one time. Just a reminder, our school supervision starts at 8:10 am so students should not be on campus prior to that. Please watch this video which explains everything visually. https://livepascok12fl.sharepoint.com/:v:/s/SSMS_Resources/EWp-TySNqT9NhG-w_TEbrmUBiW0OKQoVNSJ2lZqribL2qQ?e=hUbSWZ
Thank you for your support.

COVID Reminders:  In order to protect the health of our employees, staff and students, students & visitors must self-screen for symptoms and other risk factors of COVID-19 daily. If your child answers yes to any of these questions they should not be on campus.  Student Self Screener Please remember, if you take your child for a COVID test, please communicate with our clinic (Mrs. Copeland or Mrs. Cefalu) and students are NOT to be on campus as they await their COVID test results. If they are well enough to continue with their learning, they can access ZOOM or continue working through myLearning and email their teacher with questions. A face covering is required on all school buses, in all District buildings, in all school buildings and during all school-sponsored events and activities. This requirement is applicable to all students and to all employees, parents, and visitors entering the buildings and/or attending a school event. The face covering must cover your nose and mouth completely. The SSMS staff continue to remind our students of the proper way to wear masks in class and as they move through our campus, if students do not adhere to these district policies progressive discipline will be implemented. We appreciate your support with reminding your students of these policies.

We put a lot of communication on our social media sites, please be sure to like our Facebook pagefollow us on Twitter and check our website weekly!

Thank you for your continued partnership. Have a great week.
